THEA Garners Public Support for US 301 Study

A recent article in the Tampa Bay Business Journal, written by Breanne Williams, discusses the initial support from the public regarding the US 301 Study. In short, she writes:

The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) is receiving strong public support for plans to reduce congestion along US 301. As part of an early project phase, THEA is collecting feedback from southern Hillsborough County re sidents for a study on improving a 10-mile section of U.S. 301, between the Selmon Expressway and Big Bend Road.

Greg Slater, THEA’s CEO, noted that rapid growth has strained infrastructure, and over 7,000 residents have shared their input. Of those, 95% supported exploring alternatives to ease traffic.

THEA, which reinvests toll revenue into local projects, is considering a $1.8 billion expansion of the Selmon Expressway funded by toll-backed bonds. Slater emphasized THEA’s commitment to collaboration with the community and stakeholders to address future transportation needs.
